Four times larger than the Grand Canyon, this fabulous treasure lies deep in the heart of the state of Chihuahua.  Along the way, you'll discover colonial cities, old mining towns and spend three days on the beautiful beaches of Mazatlan.

Day 1: We will leave the Valley early. The first city that we come to is Monterrey the third largest in Mexico. Lunch will be in Saltillo which is a few hours from our destination the city of Torreon.  Night in Torreon.  Free evening.   

Day 2: Leaving early for Durango an area rich in iron, gold and silver deposits, Durango sits in a huge shallow bowl high in the central plateau of Mexico.

This city was the site of many John Wayne movies like "Old Gringo". Guided sightseeing of Durango features a visit to the Government Place, the cathedral and more.

 

Day 3: An early morning drive to Mazatlan through the Sierra Madre Occidental takes you across the once feared Devil's Backbone, from which you can see both sides of the mountain range. Arrive in beautiful and exotic Mazatlan where you will stay for the next 3 nights. Welcome cocktail

Day 4-5:   A guided sightseeing tour of the city will give you the Opportunity to better savor Mazatlan .  Optional activities: jungle tour, fishing or a boat ride to the Piedra Island.  Nights in Mazatlan .

Day 6: The beauty of agricultural fields along the road connecting Mazatlan and El Fuerte makes the drive an exciting learning experience. Night in El Fuerte.  

Day 7: This morning, prepare yourself for an exciting train ride, as you  board the Chihuahua al Pacifico.  It will take you into the land of the Tarahumara Indians to a canyon four times the size of the Grand Canyon , over 39 bridges and through 86 tunnels. End this adventure at the heart of the canyon where a guided tour  will take you into the home of a Tarahumara family.  Night in Divisadero.  Meals: lunch on the train welcome cocktail and dinner.
Day 8: With one last farewell to the canyon, you will make your way to Creel which serves as the gateway between the Tarahumaras and the rest of the civilization. Continue across the plains to Chihuahua, passing through the German Mennonite area. Over 65,000 German Mennonites have made their home on the plains surrounding Ciudad Cuahutemoc. Arriving in Chihuahua for a city tour and visiting the home of Pancho Villa. Night in Chihuahua. Meals: breakfast

Day 9: Drive through the state of Chihuahua , to the city of Torreon where we will spend the night.  It was founded in 1893 and today is a modern, industrial city.

Day 10:  Leaving early for our journey home we will pass through Saltillo and Monterrey.  Arriving to the Valley late afternoon.
